While slightly embarrassing, bad breath, also known as halitosis, is not a difficult problem to overcome. There are many easy home remedies for bad breath that you can use once you discover the source of the problem.
Listed below are some of the possible causes of bad breath and halitosis and the easy home remedies you can use to have sweet smelling breath once again.

* Eating certain foods such as garlic, onions or cabbage
* Neglectful or Improper Teeth Brushing and Mouth Care
* Oral Disease or Infection
* Poor digestion, constipation or bowl disorders
* Dry Mouth when an insufficient amount of saliva is produced
* Cigarette Smoking
* Certain Diets such as a Low or No Carb Diet
* Eating Disorders
* Sinusitus or Lung Infection
Home Remedies for a Bad Breath
* Brushing Teeth and Cleaning Tongue More Frequently
While this bad breath remedy would seem the most obvious answer, quite often bad breath is caused by bacteria that gets trapped unnoticed between teeth, gums and on the tongue. It is very important to brush after every meal, use dental floss and a tongue scraper to remove any particles that might have been left behind.
* Baking Soda
Not just for the refrigerator anymore, baking soda can work wonders in removing bad breath odor as well. Simply add a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water, and thoroughly swish and gargle every time you brush your teeth. You may also apply baking soda directly to your toothbrush when brushing your teeth and tongue.
* Lemon Juice, Ginger Juice, and Water Gargle
Add one teaspoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of ginger juice to a glass of warm water. Swish and gargle with mixture at least once a day, preferably morning and evening.
An oldie, but a real goodie. There are two different ways you can use this spice. You can simply chew on a sprig after a meal or in between brushings or you can coarsely chop it up and steep in two cups of water with 2 or 3 cloves thrown in for good measure. Gargle with mixture at least once or twice a day.
* Oil Of Oregano
Add 2 or 3 drops of oil of oregano to your water or juice daily as needed.
* Hydrogen Peroxide
This is another awesome remedy for bad breath. Combine equal parts Hydrogen Peroxide 3% and a glass of warm water and use as a mouthwash. You can also brush you tongue by applying undiluted Hydrogen Peroxide to your toothbrush. Do not gargle with the straight Hydrogen Peroxide however without diluting it because only 1.5% peroxide is needed (hence the reason you mix it with equal parts water). Do not use this remedy for a prolonged period of time however. If bad breath problem persists it is important to visit your dentist and/or doctor to ensure that there isn’t a more severe underlying health problem.
* Try Tea Tree Oil
Put two or three drops of tea tree oil on your toothbrush along with your toothpaste and brush your teeth and tongue well.
* Pinneapple Juice
While I haven’t tried this one personally, drinking pineapple juice after a meal that contains onions or garlic is supposed to do the trick.
Another effective remedy for Halitosis is avacado. It is effective in cleaning out your system which is one of the causes of bad breath.
*Drink More Water
Not only will drinking more water daily help to clean your teeth, gums and tongue, but it can also prevent dry mouth which could be a contributing factor to bad breath.
