Home Remedies for Yeast Infections
* Use Plain Yogurt
One of the best home remedies for a yeast infection is plain old yogurt. While the brand does not matter and neither does the fat content, it is very important to make sure that it contains no fruit, no sugar or flavoring of any kind. (Milk sugar is fine however because that is one of the main ingredients.)
Dip a clean tampon into the yogurt and insert it into the vagina. Leave in for about an hour. You can do this 2 or 3 times a day as needed. The yogurt contains healthy bacteria that will destroy yeast.
* Eat More Yogurt
Eating more yogurt can also help clear up, as well as prevent, further yeast infections.
* Apple Cider Vinegar
Applying undiluted apple cider vinegar can sting, so it is best to dilute it with water. There are two different ways you can use apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for yeast infections. (Warning: Never use regular or plain white vinegar because this can actually help feed the yeast infection.)
Bathe in it.
Add about two cups of apple cider vinegar it to warm bath water and soak in it with knees bent towards your body to ensure penetration. Sit in bath for 15 minutes then gently pat dry when you get out.
* Create your own Douching Solution
Combine 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to 2 quarts of warm water. Make sure the water is distilled or filtered. Otherwise you can boil the water, let it cool down to warm and then add the apple cider vinegar. Douche with this mixture twice a day while symptoms are severe and then bring it down to once a day for a few days thereafter. Stop using when symptoms are gone.
* Try Garlic
This surprising home remedy is actually very effective. Garlic is one of yeasts worst enemies. Before bedtime, simply peel one clove of garlic and insert directly into the vagina. The next morning remove the garlic. Some women wrap the garlic in gauze or cheesecloth but it isn’t really necessary unless it is more comfortable for you. Do not however slice the garlic and be sure there are no cuts in it before insertion because direction contact with the garlic juices can burn slightly.
* Wear Cotton Underwear
Yeast thrives in warm and moist environments. This is one of the reasons you should not sit for long periods of time in a wet bathing suit, or wear dungarees or clothes that are too tight where your body cannot breath. It is best to wear cotton underwear (or even sleep with no underwear at all) while experiencing a yeast infection to let the area breathe. If you are prone to yeast infections you should also consider wearing cotton underwear more often and do not wear panty liners or pads unless you are menstruating or spotting
* Watch Your Diet
Like anything else, diet can play a part in the frequency of yeast infections as well. Be sure to eat a lot of yogurt, drink plenty of water, and do your best to eliminate sugar and sugary foods because they promote yeast growth.
